SCREEN SENSE: an online Saturday Symposium

Saturday, November 22, 20259:00 am – 3:00 pm PT

with Dr. Gordon Neufeld, Dr. Deborah MacNamara and Tamara Strijack.

t's not getting any better. After 20 years, society is only now beginning to realize the downsides of the digital tools we have invented, never mind the insidious impact on the development and well-being of children. And now AI has been added to the mix. We can't put the genies back in their lamps so now we have to figure out how to raise children in this new world. For those parents and teachers who yearn for the unfolding potential of their dependents, what guidelines do we put in place to safeguard the attachments they need? And how do we implement them when we have so little support? How do we win our children back once they have become obsessed? And where and how do we start with our young ones? How do we recognize when they, or we, have lost control?

Gordon, Tamara and Deborah will walk around this phenomenon using the lenses of attachment and the knowledge of what needs to happen for healthy development to unfold. They will share their insights regarding what is happening and why, critique recent explanations, provide practical suggestions for the different ages and scenarios, and hopefully offer the language and understandings that can generate dialogue between parents, families and other adults involved.
