Neufeld Institute's

20th Anniversary Celebration

June 4th at the Vancouver Planetarium

An Invitation from Gordon Neufeld

This year marks a significant anniversary for both myself — my 80th — and for the Neufeld Institute — its 20th. Those figures suggest that I have been at the helm of this organization for a quarter of my life.

Twenty years ago, with eager anticipation, I accepted a request from a number of my students and clients to study more personally with me. I promptly retired from private practice and poured myself into the project. I was being encouraged by these students to teach more broadly the attachment-based developmental model that was coming together for me theoretically. I had no idea how to do this, and I challenged my students to figure this out.

Twenty years later, our now more than 30 courses have reached almost every corner of the planet. A great big thank you to all those students-come-faculty who have made this come true.

On June 4th we are hosting a day of celebration and inspiration for those whose lives have been changed by this material over the past five decades of service as a theorist, teacher, and therapist.

The Shape of the Day

We are pleased to be hosting this gathering at the Vancouver Planetarium. This is a full-circle moment for me, as this is where I taught some of my first Creative Parenting courses and Saturday Seminars, where the book launch was held in 2004 for Hold On to Your Kids, and where Neufeld Institute summer intensives took place for many years.

Day Program: 9:00 am – 4:00 pm

The daytime program offers a playful and thoughtful entry into my theoretical work through the voices of Neufeld Institute faculty — all of whom have studied personally with me.

Faculty will be invited to speak spontaneously on topics selected at random, followed by opportunities for reflection and response. The day will conclude with a legacy address, in which I will attempt to distill what I hope will be remembered after fifty years of putting the pieces together.

Evening Program: 6:30 – 9:30 pm

The evening gathering is shaped as a celebration.

It begins with a reception, followed by an auditorium program that includes reflections, tributes, stories, and special acknowledgements, along with an anniversary address. The evening is intended to honour the people and relationships that have carried this work forward, often quietly and often without recognition.

Those who are unable to join us in Vancouver are welcome to attend by live-stream.

As seating capacity is limited: The celebration takes place in a 210 seat auditorium, but live-streaming is available for those who wish to join us but can't.
