In response to the many queries we have received regarding the implications of Dr. Neufeld's attachment-based developmental approach for handling bedtime and sleep issues, we put together a program of studies that will help equip those who are advising and coaching parents with regards to these concerns.
Since bedtime and sleep issues are primarily rooted in facing separation, all the dynamics relating to attachment and development apply. This is the foundational understanding in selecting the courses for this program: Neufeld Intensives I & II, Making Sense of Preschoolers, and Play & Attachment. We have also included Dr. Deborah MacNamara's book on Preschoolers (Rest, Play Grow) in this program of studies. All courses can be taken online on one's own or via scheduled classes when they are offered.
Before beginning this sleep studies track however, we highly recommend viewing Dr. Neufeld's presentation on Getting Bedtime Right, available as free resource. This anchor presentation was followed up by a panel series on the topic with Dr. Neufeld as well as Dr. Deborah MacNamara and Tamara Neufeld Strijack. The recordings for this series can be purchased through this website. Certificates are awarded upon the successful completion of an assignment applying the material to a bedtime problem.
If interested in this program of studies, please contact Michele Maurer – the faculty member in charge of this program – so she can further orient and advise. Please use the contact us feature, and this will be forwarded to Michele.
